Can Green Cars Help Minimize the Problem of Global Warming?

Global warming is a controversial subject today. Some people believe that it is a reality, while others content that global warming is a figment of imagination. However, several studies and reports have proved that rising global temperatures are a reality that we should accept, and cars have contributed along with many other factors to this problem.

Today, environmentalists and researchers feel green cars could be an answer to minimize the impact of global warming. However, here the question arises whether green cars can really make a difference.

The two types of green cars currently available in the market for general public are electric cars and hybrids. However, if you look closely, you realize that electric cars are definitely not environmentally friendly as the manufacturers would like people to believe. These cars have to be charged at specific power stations, and just around 30 percent to 40 percent of the energy is actually converted to electricity. Also, when this electricity is transferred to the cars, about 30 percent of it is lost in the electric cables. So, while these cars may help to reduce pollution, they are not at all energy efficient.

If you look at hybrid cars, then you will realize that they are more popular among drivers who want to do their bit for the environment and save on gas. These cars can be run on electricity as well as gas. Each time you apply the brakes, the car produces energy and this is then used to charge the battery of the engine. So, when you compare the two types of eco-friendly cars, the hybrid car stands out. However, the hybrid car is not fully a green car as it runs on battery and when you change the battery, you would have to get rid of it. This battery is not biodegradable. Nonetheless, hybrids are a step forward in helping to control pollution and global warming.
