They are also more efficient, economic and sustainable.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital transformation is bringing exciting innovation into Ireland&#8217;s hospitals, which is benefitting patients and clinicians alike. When you think about how many times patients have their temperatures taken, you can see how this mounts up, both economically and environmentally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the latest thermometers are non-contact and use <a href=\"https:\/\/trimedika.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">infrared technology<\/a>. To take the temperature, you simply point at a patient\u2019s forehead and click. \u201cBecause it doesn&#8217;t touch the patient it&#8217;s less invasive and disruptive for them,\u201d says Molloy. \u201cThey can have their temperature taken while they are asleep, for example. As 80% of hospital infections are passed through contact, it removes that risk. Plus, it&#8217;s time saving for clinicians and more sustainable because no plastic consumables are needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The HSE is very open-minded and supportive of new companies developing new technology.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Implementing new technology<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Molloy&#8217;s company has been working in partnership with HSE&#8217;s Digital Health Living Labs initiative to accelerate the creation and adoption of their own non-contact thermometers in more hospitals.
