It\u2019s a useful tool as Cardiologists can now rely on this data to diagnose symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Patients can self-refer to our service based on <br>their symptoms or smart device data, or <br>they can be referred to us by their GP.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-early-detection-matters\"><strong>Why early detection matters<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kenny explains: \u201cSymptoms can include palpitations, an increased\/irregular heart rate above the typical 60\u2013100 beats per minute, fatigue and shortness of breath \u2014 but for some people, there may be no symptoms at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisations across Ireland promote cardiac screening in young people, especially for those who are asymptomatic or in high-risk groups, such as athletes or those with a family history of arrhythmias. She adds: \u201cFollow-up is a big part of my role; one patient told me that finally getting a diagnosis completely changed her life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"healt-2524571763\"><div class=\"healt-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><div id=\"healt-1005951810\" style=\"margin-top: 30px;margin-bottom: 30px;\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/getsmartaboutafib.net\/en-IE\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Jonson and Johnson desk\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com\/cdn-site.mediaplanet.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/94\/2024\/09\/23155647\/Jonson-and-Johnson-desk.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"750\" height=\"250\"   \/><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-treatment-options-for-patients-with-arrhythmia\"><strong>Treatment options for patients with arrhythmia<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are lucky to be a technologically advanced hospital, so if there is a way to stop patients from being on long-term drug therapy, we will endeavour to find it,\u201d says Kenny. \u201cWe are treating more patients than ever before with catheter ablation, which reduces the number of long-term medications they will require and <a href=\"https:\/\/getsmartaboutafib.net\/en-IE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">improves patients\u2019 ongoing quality of life<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The procedure is not limited on the basis of age, and the success rate is high, according to Kenny.
