While supporting individuals and their families can be challenging, it is also highly rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"healt-409198348\"><div class=\"healt-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><div id=\"healt-1609859266\" style=\"margin-top: 30px;margin-bottom: 30px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/enableireland.ie\/about-us\/careers\/our-vacancies\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Enable2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com\/cdn-site.mediaplanet.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/94\/2024\/03\/07205921\/Enable2.jpg\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com\/cdn-site.mediaplanet.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/94\/2024\/03\/07205921\/Enable2.jpg 1563w, https:\/\/s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com\/cdn-site.mediaplanet.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/94\/2024\/03\/07205921\/Enable2-768x256.jpg 768w, https:\/\/s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com\/cdn-site.mediaplanet.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/94\/2024\/03\/07205921\/Enable2-1536x512.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1563px) 100vw, 1563px\" width=\"750\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-interdisciplinary-teams-supporting-children-with-disabilities\"><strong>Interdisciplinary teams supporting children with disabilities<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rory Kiely is a Senior Social Worker with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.enableireland.ie\/careers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enable Ireland<\/a>, a national voluntary organisation providing services for over 13,000 children and adults with disabilities and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He works on a team alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, positive behaviour specialists, psychologists, nurses, early child care workers and paediatricians, supporting children up to 18-years-old with complex needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe kind of support depends on each child,\u201d he explains. \u201cOne child could have needs that require input from a full interdisiplinary team while other children may just require physiotherapy support.\u201d He has worked on the Children\u2019s Disability Network Team in Sandymount, Dublin for 18 months where onsite facilities include a preschool, school, a hydrotherapy pool, assistive technology and a Seat Tech Posture and Mobility Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-holistic-understanding-of-disability\"><strong>Holistic understanding of disability<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe look at disability from multiple perspectives,\u201d says Kiely. Teams work to gain a holistic understanding of the child, from communication or physical movement, family dynamics or whether they are receiving the correct benefits and entitlements. The team work with the family to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.enableireland.ie\/careers\">identify their priorities and set goals<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hear the voice of the child and family as the team works to achieve those goals,\u201d he adds. Individualised support plans for each child and family highlight those goals.
